Friends. Are they really forever?

I feel the older I get, the tighter I want my circle of friends to become.  I don't intentionally let people slip out of my life, but some individuals just aren't worth it.  In the past I've allowed people to take advantage of me.  They've clouded my mind and discernment with lies disguised by false friendships.  I've always tried to give others the benefit of the doubt, second chances, sometimes even third, fourth, and fifth, but I've realized by doing so, no one learns.  I'm certainly not trying to say that I'm perfect, because trust me, I'm not.  But what I am is, real.  I know who I am.  I know my strengths and my flaws... and I embrace them both equally.  It's unfortunate, that these friendships have ended, but you push forward, and embrace the ones that have stood by your side.  The ones that were there for you through the best of times and were genuinely and undeniable rooting for your success, but were also there for you to help pick up the pieces during your failures.  Those are the people that matter.  Those are the ones that you keep and hold on tight to.  And those are the ones that I say a little thank you to, every single day.

On a lighter note.. look at how tight these shorts are! Curses.  I've eaten a lot of these little puto's that my aunty brought over this weekend.  They are so light and deceivingly delicious.  If you don't know what puto is, google it now.  Sooo yummy!

Totally agree with you about friends.

So there with you on the friends factor. The older I get the tighter the circle becomes. It's really sad when women behave like cats in a bag.

Can't agree with you more honey. Don't make someone priority if you're only an option to them.

Since buying a house I'm totally over all the unnecessary drama that some people relish in. I feel like a light bulb has gone off in myhead by taking this huge, mature step. BTW--those shorts are HOT!

I can totally relate to your post today. I've been going through and re-evaluating some of the people that say there friends. I find it sad how people feel, how they could treat others the way they want. I feel I'm so like you were i give people chance after chance and i seem to alway be there with a hand but when its turned around there no where.

Thanx for the post.. i think i could go for some puto (even tho i never had before) but looks yummy

I've done that lately. Especially as I'm closing in on 30 in the next year. It's time to cut the chaff. I totally understand. As we get older, we want our group of friends without splinters. Those we hold dear, we want to hold us dear. Those who purport to call us best friends and dear friends, but don't support us or make an effort to maintain the friendship, why waste the piece of our heart and effort of emotion and gesture? It's a waste, truly. And when the love isn't returned, it drains us even more.

I totally understand, and I don't think it's wrong. It's better to focus on those who can focus back on you. That's what friendship is about. Reciprocal love.

My writing style is binary opposite than you. I write with abandon, and my writing often writes itself. I hardly edit myself, and often find adding more and more each time I proof... but I'm a spinner of fiction, not insightful prose as you write. I think that's why I resonate more with your writing than with mine, because you write truth from the heart, and I write fiction to infuse my heart's words into other people's mouths.

And OMG, Andy Samberg is kind of my dream beau. A skinny, funny, musical, nerdy sort of dude. Kind of like Nate, but without the skinny/musical part. :) If Andy Samberg and Ben Barnes (King Caspian - Narnia) became a hybrid, that would be, like, my dream come true.

Uh yeah, you get me. I get you. I smell what you're cookin'. :)

Yummmmm, those look amazingly delicious! ;) And you rock those short shorts, Sharon! How I wish I could be sporting shorts now. It's -30 degrees celcius here!

PS: I do believe friends last forever. Not all of them, of course. Growing older, me too I've made the choice of keeping my closest friends closer and others sorta drifted away. But it's those ones you can count with your fingers that really count and will be there for you no matter what. Never let them go! :)

YUM puto!!!! I feel the same way about friends. The older I get the more I realize how the number of friends isn't as important as the quality.

You took the words right out of my mouth. The last year especially really opened my eyes and showed me who my real friends were. When we're younger the amount of friends mattered so much but as we get older, it's the meaning of friendship and the ones that have lasted really truly matter. Great post!

BTW, LOVE your sweater! Looks so cozy!! ♥

hey sharon:)

that looks really yummy (in the last picture). thanks for actually reading my stuff;) I like to answer all my comments yep:) I liked reading what you wrote in this blogpost, about friends.. and I know what you mean with taken advantage of.. been there, done that:p well I've been there, not done that with friends. just liked the phrase. but anyways, the way I go abouts life is about forgiving people. Forgiving people before they've said sorry, before they've done anything 'greater, better, nicer' than I've done for them. In the end, you can't change people, but you can change yourself. Not that there should be anything wrong with us. I don't look at the circumstance, I look at what attitude in my heart do I have or does she/he has/have doing something? like when I used to have a fight with my sister it'll be like pointing fingers at each other who did what to who and how many times.. "I can push her one more time, because she pushed me three times, and I only pushed her 2 times!" it's like unecessary thinking logical about stuff and thinking it over and over and over again. All I can do is show, give, act with love. Love overcomes everything: frustration, anger, whatever negative emotions. and I don't go about how I got 'stronger' because of my past. I live in 'the now', and what is my current situation? I pick it up from there and go live life.. and.. I smile:)

hehe. don't know why I started to preach stuff. but there ya go:p I sometimes ramble a lot.

I agree, it's better to have a tighter circle of people you trust, rather than a broad range of people you do not share a deep connection with, and trust. I love your stripe sweater and those putos look delicious!

don't let bad friends get you down, it's not worth your thoughts, girl. your thrifted sweater is beautiful! xphel

Friends that get you down and aren't worth it make those lovely friendships you have much sweeter. Those cakes are amazing! I eat them with coconut cream and even though they technically all taste the same (if it's food coloring and not flavoring!) I love eating the colored ones first anyway because they're so pretty!

I know what you mean about the friends! I feel the same way--good to let good people in and keep them there. :) This was a really nice post, and I love your cut-offs and sweater.
