Ice Cream, you scream!

It's a rarity that you'll ever see my hair up.  I don't really like to show off my mouse-like ears, >_< but I thought this cool little outfit needed some "cool" hair, so I flew my locks up into a messy bun.  Isn't this shirt rad?  I totally love it.  The material is super soft and airy and of course I couldn't resist the quirky ice cream print.  Who doesn't love ice cream, right?  Now, I'm craving a big bowl of Kona mud pie. YUM.

Hope your week is going great so far!

The Pirate

Hey guys! How was your weekend?  Hope you did something fun and maybe even tried something new. :)

Wanted to send some love to my hubby, my boo, my Pirate, Eli.  He revived his style blog.  Yippee!!  Check out his current inspirations, musical musings, and of course his daily manfits on The Style Pirate.

He's obsessed with the Unif Hellraiser.  He's up to 5 pairs... and counting.  I wonder if his shoe fairy will be as kind as mine.  tee hee!

A sweet concoction

Are you sick of seeing me in peplums yet? :)

I reworked an old muumuu to create this little top.  I love how lightweight the fabric is.  The itty bitty polka dot print and eyelet trim at the yoke are great details as well.  I can't help but feel like a little girl in this top, so when I wore it to the office yesterday, I paired it with a "power pump" and a studded bag to edge it up a bit.  I'm hoping to cruise at the beach this weekend, so that I can pair this sweet top with some cutoffs and a floppy hat.  I think I found myself the perfect summer top.

Happy Aloha Friday & Happy Weekend-ing, guys!

Summer stylin'

It's officially summer!  Then again, it's always summer in Hawaii.  How did you guys spend the longest day of the year?  Hope it was well spent.  I put together a few looks of what I've been crushing over as of late.  These looks totally scream summer time fun!

If you've been following me, you know right now, I'm really into the peplum trend.  Let's face it, I'm beyond obsessed with all things peplum. :)  When I spotted this coral top on Alainn Bella, I was a smitten kitten.  I dreamt of ways I'd style this beaut.  Oh! The possibilities are endless, but the this would be my ideal way... um hello, with polka jeans and a metal cap toe pointy flat, could it get any better? I think not!

{Coral Peplum Top, buy}

The high-low (hi-lo) or "mullet" trend is spotted everywhere these days.  I own a few pieces, which oddly enough haven't made any appearances on the blog yet.  This dress would be a perfect look for a night out with the Pirate or perhaps catching the flick, Magic Mike with a bunch of girlfriends (c'mon ladies, who's ready to see Mr. Tatum werrrrrrrk it!? EEP! can't wait, haha).

{Peach printed hi-lo dress, buy}

Lastly, every girl needs a little black dress.  This one is a great casual option; short, loose fitting, and lightweight.  I like the idea of wearing all black and using one key piece to add a pop of color.  And because it's summer, what better way to add color than a rad neon denim jacket!  Paired with an awesome hand bag and bad ass Jeffrey Campbell shoes you'll surely be stylin' this summer. :)

Happy Summer, guys!

Oldies, but goodies

This is a rarity on my blog.  Normally, I'm "showing off" my latest finds or newest purchase, but my outfit today was fashioned completely from pieces in my already-bursting-by-the-seams-so-why-do-I-keep-buying-stuff wardrobe.

Let me share a little story with you.  In high school, my BFF used to be a girl who never repeated an outfit in the same month.  To say I was envious of her wardrobe would be an understatement.  I, on the other hand, was that girl who would wear the same pair of shorts or jeans in the same week.  It didn't really bother me, because style comes from being able to reinvent yourself  and work with what you have, or in my case back then, what I didn't have.  Times sure have changed, because now I'm the girl who what seems like has an endless supply of clothing, shoes, and accessories at her disposal and my BFF has taken the more minimalist approach to her sartorial musings.  I've entertained the idea of really redefining my closet and editing the "unnecessary", but then I snap back into reality and realize that I love fashion and clothes (and yes I admit it, trends!) so much that I can't give up the "unnecessary".  Not just... yet.  It's definitely nice to remix old favorites. :)

What kind of closet do you have?  Overfloweth or minimalist?

Structured details

I'm still on a peplum high! I can't help myself.  I love peplums.  I made this top last year.  When I found this green and black tapestry-esque fabric, I knew I wanted to make something with structure and voila this beautiful top sprung to life.  The silhouette was actually inspired by a local landmark here on Maui, the Lahaina Jodo Mission.  It mimics the architecture of the Pagoda temple.  I even made matching pants to go with this top, which have hand quilted side panels, but I decided to forgo the silky pants and opted for a more casual Friday look; enter my favorite pair of denim jeans.

I wanted the top to stand out, but if you know me, when it comes to accessorizing I have a hard time with the "more is less" concept.  Surprisingly enough, I think the necklace and bag I chose paired perfectly.  I really love this studded structured bag that OASAP sent me.  It surely adds spice to any ensemble.

I hope you all had a great Aloha Friday! Here's to a magically weekend.  :)

Shoe Obsessed

Wanted to introduce you to a few new members of my shoe family. :)  Most of these (except for the Hellraiser) were given to me by my wonderful Pirate hubby.  He's so sweet and thoughtful and truly knows the way to my heart.  Haha!  Thank you hubbs, you are the bomb!!

Floral Peplum

Remember the J. Crew floral peplum blouse I was crushing on?  Well, I made my very own.  It's a tad loose, but a girl's gotta breathe, right?  All jokes aside, I'm pretty pleased with the outcome.  I have some left over fabric and was thinking I could make matching shorts!  Would that be too much?

Another shoe style I've been searching for was something in the metallic family.  The nice people over at Go Jane sent over these sweet silver metallic heels.  I love the sleek design!  And the platform and ankle strap are great details as well.  The heel is on the thicker side, so I won't have to worry about loosing my balance while teetering on these 5 1/2" babies.  These heels even come in a rose gold version.  Check it out here.

Here's hoping to a great Monday to you all. :)

*gasp* please pardon my horrid looking feet. i need a pedicure stat!

On Point

As I was going through my shoe collection, in a sea of funky, wild, and crazy (mostly JC!) shoes, I noticed that it lacked something; a simple black pump.  I happened to be browsing the Mango website and these pointed toe patent wedges caught my eye instantly.  Sure, they're not exactly a pump, but they are definitely a pair of heels that is simple and classic enough to be worn for seasons to come.  What shoes have you been dying to add to your collection?

Happy Aloha Friday, guys! xo

Gingham girl

Obsessed with gingham & plaid, I tell ya!

I wore this shirt to work with a pair of jeans and flats, but decided to dress it up a bit with a skirt and heels for a dinner and movie date with the Pirate.  We ate at one of our fave little restaurants, Penne Pasta.  While at dinner we both decided to keep our cellphones out of reach, so that we could really enjoy our time together; talk to each other, rather than tweeting, instagraming, or FB-ing our little date.  Haha.  With technology and social networking literally at our fingertips these days, we can easily get wrapped up in cyber world, when the real world is passing us by.  The Pirate and I always have a great time together, but last night was extra fun.  As corny as it sounds, date nights are important in relationships.  It's a great opportunity to reconnect with your partner. :)

These orange platforms are another great pair that MyHotShoes sent me.  I don't have any orange shoes, so I thought this pair would be a great addition to my shoe collection.  I swear it feels like you're walking on a cloud in these babies.  They are super lightweight.  The platform makes it's a breeze to walk in, too.  Don't forget, my readers get 20% off (promo code: SHARON2) any pair of shoe or shoes you want from MyHotShoes.  There are tons of great summer sandals to choose from!

Pink Lemonade

The neon trend is probably one of the most seen trends right now.  I'm no stranger to color and I embrace it with open arms, so when I saw these hot pink shorts, I knew I had to have it (I also have it in a citrine and teal hue).  Paired with a trusty gingham shirt and my newly acquired lime green sandals, this is probably one of my fave weekend looks.  The trade winds were back this weekend! Whew.. thank goodness.  Hope you all are soaking up the rest of the weekend.  :
