It's been nearly two weeks since the fashion show that I, along with my fellow Couturiers participated in. The show was a tribute to Alfred Shaheen; showcasing vintage pieces and also the grand opening to his exhibit in the
Schaefer Gallery. With his undeniable talent of creating textiles, Shaheen helped popularize the Hawaiian shirt and aloha wear. It was truly an honor and privilege, as a student designer to be able to show with the likes of established Hawaii designers;
Bernard Foong,
Anne Namba, and
Maggie Coulombe. It was also great to see Andy South again. He did a fabulous job emceeing the event.
Collectively, we decided to incorporate a Hawaiian-ish textile into our collection, to pay tribute and honor Shaheen's legacy. The fabric we selected had a retro feel to it and definitely stood out on the runway. I'm still waiting to see/get photos from the event, but local photographer,
Anna Kim, was able to capture this gorgeous shot of my design. I had the best model evaaarrr, Sofia. She worked the runway and my dress like no other. And the hot pants looked AMAZEBALLS on her. LOVE! Visit Anna Kim's
blog, to see a few more snaps from the show.
A few of my friends and Couturier's that also showcased pieces in the fashion show.
