Emerald Waves

Yesterday, the Pirate took me out for lunch at The Plantation House Restaurant.  I haven't been there in years, but I knew exactly what I wanted to order.  I've been craving eggs benny for so long, and The Plantation House has the best.  I got the crabby eggs benny and oh boy was it delectably divine.  I ate every single bite. Their hollandaise sauce is AMAZEBALLS!!! mmmmmm.  It is so out of this world that I wanted to lick my plate clean.  However, I resisted the temptation.

Christy from Simply Audrey sent me the Emerald Waves sheer top as a gift.  It's everything that I love about a top; light and flowy chiffon with a great print.  I knew I wanted to wear it with my new paper bag shorts I got from AE a few weeks ago.  I really love green and navy paired together.  Don't you?

Thanks to everyone that enter my Simply Audrey giveaway.  I enjoyed reading all the entries.  Trusty Random.org helped me choose the winner, and entry #77 was the lucky one.  Congrats to Angie from Living Aloha.  She's also from Hawaii!!  Woop Woop. ;) She's an aspiring artist and photographer, definitely check out her blog when you get a chance.  Thanks again to all that entered. And big thanks to Christy from Simply Audrey for partnering up with me for this giveaway.

Off to get my Pho on and then indulge in the VMA's.  Can't wait to see Miss Gaga's performance.

Casually Cool

I got these shoes from ASOS.  I love the lucite-esque heel.  From afar it looks like the shoe doesn't have a heel at all.  It's quite magical if you ask me.  Sorta like these.  I really like this top, but it doesn't photograph too well.  At least it keeps me cool, since the heat won't let up.

I need to get more creative with my poses.  I recycle the same ones over and over again.  I guess that's just me being green.  :)  Seriously, I need help.  Who wants to help me out?  Any tips??

Today's my first day back to school.  I'm SEW back in action!

Sunshine-y Shorts

I'm pretty lucky to work in an office that doesn't have a true dress code.  Of course, I keep it classy and you'll never see me wearing cut offs or flips flops to work.  This is what I wore last Friday.  Don't the shorts instantly put a smile on your face?  I love the sunshiney-lemony color.  It was a perfect way to end the work week, at least from a sartorial p.o.v.  And I couldn't resist pairing the shorts with a big bold leopard print.

Do you lovelies have a "dress code" for work?  What is your favorite thing to wear to the office?

Gold explosion

I wore this out to sushi the other night.  Doesn't it look exactly like the last outfit I posted?  It pretty much is, I just swapped out the top.  I'm really glad I got these shoes.  They're super comfy and even though they're blue, I've worn them with quite a few things already.

In two and a half weeks, I, along with 8 other UH Maui fashion students (Couture Club), will be showcasing our designs at the Couture Hawaii Fashion Show held at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.  We will be showing along side well-known Hawaii designers; Anne Namba, Maggie Coulumbe, and Bernard Foong.  There will also be vintage Alfred Shaheen apparel on display.  The event will be hosted by Project Runway Season 8 alum, Andy South.   It's quite exciting and a bit intimidating.  I finally have my first fitting with my model tomorrow... I hope all goes well.. wish me luck!

GIVEAWAY: Simply Audrey

A couple weeks ago, I stumbled across the online boutique, Simply Audrey.  I was instantly impressed with the selection the shop had to offer.  Each piece lives up to the company's motto, "Savvy, Chic yet Simple".  And let me tell ya, affordable too.  I easily filled up a basket of goodies. :)  I've been emailing with the shop owner, Christy, and she is a gem.. the sweetest girl ever.  Let's get to know a little more about Christy, and Simply Audrey.

Tell us a little about yourself...
My name is Christy, I live in sunny California where we complain of cold when it hits 65 degrees and complain of heat when it hits 95 degrees. :) I am a wife to a wonderful husband and a mother to two little ones who just melt my heart. 6 year old girly girl Audrey and 2 year old full of energy Aaron. I love my family and I love God who gives me breath everyday.

What made you decide to start up "Simply Audrey"?
I worked in the fashion industry as a designer for almost 10 years before I decided to stay home when I got pregnant with my 2nd child. The morning sickness was HORRIBLE but that's another story I can go on and on about. I enjoyed being a stay at home with my 2 kids until my 2nd child turned two and was ready for preschool. I always wanted to have a little boutique of my own so that I can offer customers the a line of clothing that is savvy and chic especially for the working professionals. With two little ones at home, having a brick and mortar store was out of the question. So this online boutique was the perfect solution! After months of preparation and named after my lovable and a "fashionista in training" daughter Audrey, Simply Audrey was launched...

Have you always love fashion? How would you describe your style aesthetic?
I have ALWAYS loved and had passion for creating. I remember when I was really younger, going through my mom's closet and cutting up some of her clothes to either revamp it or make something for my dolls. Boy did I get in trouble for that... So after high school, going to FIDM and majoring in fashion design just seemed so natural. I loved every minute of being in school learning and creating and I couldn't wait until I finished to start working in the industry.

If I can describe my fashion style in one word, it would be "feminine." I am a very girly kind of girl and love dressing up. These days I am loving maxi skirts that make me feel so romantic and feminine, not to mention comfy and cool... Being a mom of two littles gives me a bit of restriction on what I can wear (especially shoes! I am petite but cannot think of wearing high heels or tall wedges as I am always chasing after my energetic younger one and am always afraid that I will one day just "eat it" chasing after him out in public. How embarrassing that would be? hahaha. I am secretly envious of you Sharon for being able to wear those lovely JC shoes!)

Do you have a style icon?
I DO have a style icon. Audrey Hepburn. I remember watching "Breakfast at Tiffany's" when I was a sophomore in high school and falling in love with her. I decided then that if I ever have a daughter, I would name her Audrey. Now everything ties in together right? I heart Audrey Hepburn = My heart for feminine pieces = Daughter named Audrey = Simply Audrey, my online boutique!

I hear you're a craft enthusiast, have you done any awesome DIY's lately?
My most recent DIY's is posted in my blog. It was so fun and therapeutic for me as I love crafting... My next one is the clutches that I love from you Sharon! As soon as you post your tutorial on it. ;)

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why?
I would love to go back to Fiji island where we went for our honeymoon almost 10 years ago. I specifically remember sitting in the pool with my newly wedded husband and saying, "let's come back here in 10 years with our kids..." Back then it seemed like forever until 10 years would come by and we promised to do that, but hey! 10 years went by pretty darn quick! That trip will have to wait a bit, but I can't wait to go back there with our kids... Its a beautiful beautiful place...

And because I love food, what's your favorite food/thing to eat!?
I am laughing already as I try to answer this question because I love food and I am the kind of person that can eat almost anything and everything. Some of my favorites are are: Pho, korean bbq, Mastro's steak with a glass of Dr. Loosen, any kind of pasta, shaved ice, boba, thai ice coffee, McDonald's ice coffee and oh my this list can go on and on. So I will end here on my food obsessions...

Christy has offered to give one of my readers this gorgeous Rose Tint contrast strap top.  Isn't the asymmetrical back fabulous?

Something Blue

I received this gorgeous Lapis Cocktail Ring from Wendy Mink the other week.  Isn't it amazingly delightful? I adore the rich color the specks of gold throughout the stone.  While this is a statement ring that deserves a glamorous outfit to match, I decided to spruce up a a simple weekend look, instead.  It did the trick, don't you think?  And I broke in my new pair of blue sandals today, too.  Thank you Wendy Mink... I'll wear my new ring proudly.  For more fabulous pieces, click here.

Gotta jet... time to sew.

Olivier Green, you're quite amazing...

I was thinking I'd wear this to work tomorrow.  Then I looked in the mirror, and there is no way that this is "office appropriate."  Surely, I'd turn some heads. lol.  While our office has a very casual dress code (I'm talkin' "Jeans Friday" is everyday), I think it's an outfit that's much more suited for the weekend.  However, I think I finally found a look that pairs quite nicely with the funky-ness of the shoe.  I'm sure some of you want to vomit at the sight of the flatform (my BFF included, hi Jo!), but I dig them.  That's what's so cool about fashion... it allows us to express our own individual style.

Have any of you been watching the new season of Project Runway?  What are your thoughts?  Do you have a favorite?  I adore Olivier Green.  His winning design from last week's PetCo challenge was AMAZING!

Animal Instinct

Just a few animal-y things that make me smile.

1.  Ego + Greed Two Hundred.  I caved and got a pair of flatforms.  These shoes are fun, but so hard to style.  Wear with caution:  may cause temporary duck-feet-itis. :D  Buy them here, if you dare.  Pooma isn't a fan. LOL.

2.  I love the peek-a-boo opening on the back of this Michael Kors dress.

3.  A lovely little leopard encrusted compact from one of my favorite little girls of all time.  Thank you Kamoana.  Aunty loves her compact!

4.  Some fun inexpensive wooden bracelets to spruce up a casual look.  And a bottle of Coco Mademoiselle... perfect for a huntress on the prowl.... for more shoes!  :) tee hee!

I hope you enjoyed this fabulous day!  Stay cool,  I've been trying to all day.  Thank goodness it will be night soon.

If you want a happy ending, that depends, of course, on where you stop your story

Tonight was my last "date night" with Mr. Neal Caffrey.  I'll reunite with him in the winter. :D

I've had a full fringe for as long as I can remember.  I think it's approaching the 5 year mark.  Perhaps a change is in the horizon???  Is it weird that when I look at the photo below, I see a "stranger"?  I look so different with my forehead exposed.  Decisions decisions. >_<

I'm still obsessed with orangey-coraly lippies and was super stoked to have received a package in the mail today from my friend, Hana.  She included a couple lippies from Revlon.  I love the colors she chose (lipstick: Siren, lipgloss: Coral Reef).  And remember when she sent over this pink babies, well she also sent me another pair of sweet sandals.  I love the cone shaped heel. Thanks again, Hana... my shoe fairy. :)

Always Beside You

Never above you, never below you, always beside you.  That's where I'll always be.  I heart you, Pirate.

Last night the Pirate took me out to chef Mark Ellman's new restaurant, Honu Seafood & Pizza.  The restaurant sits right on the ocean, in Lahaina Town.  I was really excited to try this place, especially because chef Ellman's other restaurant (which is right next door to Honu), Mala is also a fave of mine.  And it offered a menu that would satisfy both the Pirate and I.  He's a pizza lover and I love me my seafood!

A friend of mine told me to hold off and wait a week or two before dining at Honu, but only because they just opened a few days ago.  I couldn't wait!  Perhaps, I should have.  While the ambiance is fabulous, the service was quite slow.  I had high expectations with the food as well; I got the clam roll.  The clams were not very seasoned and a little too oily for my taste.  The french fries (a mix of regular and sweet potatoes) were delicious!  I've never met a fry I didn't like. :)  The Pirate ordered the Mushroom pizza;   roasted Alii Mushrooms, Truffle cheese, garlic, lavender, and white truffle oil.  That was scrumptious!  And for dessert we had Affogato; vanilla ice cream with espresso.

First impressions mean a lot, and although I wasn't too impressed, I'm certain I'll be back to give Honu another try.  I'm dying to try their Live Clam Chowder and the Crab Mac & Cheese!! mmmm so rich, but I'm sure very delectable.

Can you believe I've had this dress for over two years and this is the first time it's come out to play!?  I don't know why I've waited so long to wear it.  I love the brocade pattern, the easy silhouette, and the hidden side pockets! I'll certainly make sure to get more use out of this little number. :)

Fresh Face!!

Hey lovelies!  I wanted to ask a huge favor!  It'll only take a couple seconds of your time.  My friend Carly recently entered her daughter, Jayda, in the "Red Door Photography Fresh Face" contest.  It would be awesome if you could help her win.  To vote for her click HERE.  She's contestant #7 in Category 4.  Polls close on August 14th.

Jayda is an outgoing and vivacious little girl... a little fashionista in the making.  She is a cheerleader for the Maui Extreme Cheer team and also recently competed in the first annual Mini Miss Maui.  Her dream is to one day become a fashion designer.  How awesome is that!!?!

Big Thanks from Jayda and I!  And spread the word about this contest! Every little bit counts. :)

I Love You, I Love You Not

There are those days when I dread living in the land of the perpetual summer.  Today was one of them.  The heat has been incessant as of late.  In Hawaii, it's rare that homes have central a/c, and although our home has two a/c (wall) units, it's a rarity we turn them on.  Why?  Because it takes too dang long for it to cool down the room!  Today I had to get out of the house for a cool-me-down.  Had a quick Thai iced tea + Vietnamese coffee date with the Pirate.  Mmm mmm good.  One thing I realized is that even with the temps rising, I still reach for pants and long-ish sleeved pairings.  Go figure.

Hope you all had a great Hump Day.  Off to make dinner.  Tonight's menu, Portuguese Chicken.  Oooo and it's Shark Week on the tube. I heart Shark Week!

Party in my mouth

When I heard Hello Kitty and friends collaborated with Yogurtland, I knew I needed to get my froyo on asap.  Frozen yogurt is surely the perfect summer treat.  And it's good for you too, unless you eat it like how I eat it.  I always get at least 3 different flavors.  My faves would be original tart, peanut butter, and taro.  Yeah, I like to mix things up, even if the flavors don't "go".  Then when I hit the toppings bar I go a little insane.  I want to pile everything on, but with A LOT of self control I resort to only putting three different toppings.  This time I chose blueberries, mac nuts, and reeses.  Clearly my tastes buds scream for an abundance of different tastes.  My BFF can attest to the crazy food combo's I come up with.  People may say my palette is "unrefined", I say it's a party in my mouth. :)

Do you froyo? And if so,what is your favorite combo(s)?

Do you see that gorgeous timepiece? I'll show it up close and personal in my next post. :)
