D.I.Y. Friday

I called in "sick" today. My toe (gosh, doesn't it sound like I've been talking about my toe forever!!) was not doing too great at the end of the day yesterday, so I decided that I need to take the day off today and stay off my feet.  My day consisted of...
- me laying in bed with my foot elevated
- me sitting on the couch with my foot elevated
- me at the computer with my foot elevated

How fun! NOT.

I did complete a really simple DIY that I found on a blog I recently discovered, Emily of EM. ME. MA.. I used some inexpensive fabric from my stash... not really a color I wear, so don't know if I'll ever wear this out.  Next time around I want to try it with a print or different type of material.  Please pardon the messy hair and no make up look!!  This will probably one of the very very very few times you will see my hair UP. I hate it up... it probably has something to do with my "mousey" ears. :) I love them, but they're only for me to look at.. and the hubby... and the people at the gym.

Here's the finished product.

{DIY tunic/dress, jean chain worn as neckalce - F21, cuff - F21, black ribbon belt}
***I'm trying to "hide" my toe... didn't do such a good job in the second pic...

Happy Aloha Friday everyone!!

A rising Star

Last week, employees from the company I work for were invited to a tasting at the new restaurant they will be opening in early February, STAR NOODLE.  The food there was amazing; think noodle house / asian tapas... and by the time we left I was stuffed! ... but I could definitely go back for more!  The restaurant itself had a definte trendy atmosphere, something Maui lacks.. it's quite exciting!!

These are just some of the items we tried...
-Steamed pork bun (it's like an open faced manapua... one of my favs!! mm pork!!)
-Somen salad (all the noddles are made at the restaurant)
-I don't know the name of this dish, but it was like a pork + shrimp crepe lettuce wrap, oh and that dipping sauce was amazing.
-Sizzling steak.
-Yes, that's hot dogs... who thought a hot dog could be so "gourmet".. I really enjoyed the Tokyo dog. mm.
-Nori wrapped chicken.
-Chicken Satay.
-Fried Saimin!!
-Scallops + Asparagus.... cooked to perfection!!!!!!

I'm looking forward to trying one of their dessert dishes; MANDAGI - a cross between malasadas and andagi... and it comes with chocolate and caramel dipping sauces and nuts!!

.... my sister's bf told me about this a while back.. but it's true.. look at what Apple will be launching this coming March / April!! How stinkin' awesome! I want one! I NEED ONE!.... The iPad.... it's so magical.... it's like a ginormous iPhone :) minus the phone.

What are your thoughts??  Will this be something you'll be investing in?

I treated myself to a little online shoe shopping spree!! Look at what I got...

{loubies!! the sparkly blue ones are my favorite!!!} = $3465.00

{diane von furstenberg, valentino, ysl} = $1872.50

{derek lam, jeffrey campbell, jeffrey campbell} = $1162.00

{deena + ozzy, jeffrey campbell, sam edelman} = $586.00

{jeffrey campbell, twelfth st.} = $555.00

Grand Total = $7640.50

Oh wait... then I realized I was just taking a cat nap.. oh shucks!!! My whole toe situation has caused me to delusionally day dream about buying a ridiculous amount of shoes... and above are just a few of what I've been day dreaming of!

I do want to send out a BIG THANKS to everyone for your sweet comments about my TOE :).  It's still a bit tender, swollen, and wrapped in gauze, but for the most part it feels a lot better than last week. I can't wait until this whole ordeal is over.

The weather in Lahaina has been pretty strange..... and today it was really gloomy and windy. I kinda liked it. We hardly ever get "gloomy" weather. I took a picture of the sky this morning.
... and thought.... hmmmm I can wear a scarf today!! It's very rare that people in Lahaina wear scarves and if they are, it's more fashion than function.  [blurrrrrrrrrryy BB pic :)]
But of course by the time lunch rolled around the skies with filled with sunshine and puffy white clouds.. the breeze was still there, so it felt great!! [another blurrrrry BB pic.. sorry :(]
Wearing: v-neck - Hanes, jeans - Abercrombie, ruffled cardi - Target, scarf - Miley Cyrus for Walmart, sunnies - Drugstore
Can't wait till my next cat nap.. wonder what I'll dream up next....

ONE Hundred... ***Giveaway*** - CLOSED

Happy 100th POST to me! :)

This past week moved by soooooooooo slow. It could be that I had 4 days off...

I have a brief update with my lovely BIG TOE! It's dressed in white gauze!!! Yes, the doctor finally decided that they needed to remove part of the toenail. Ouch!! I was a bit of a drama queen, ok let me be honest... I was a huge drama queen when I went to the doc's yesterday. I HATE NEEDLES with a passion! Eli had to come in the room with me while the procedure was being done and I squeezed his hands so hard the whole time.. What a big baby, I know!!  I hope my toe will be ok when the healing is complete. I can't wait to wear heels!! They're so lonely in my closet.

Can you spot the toe? hee hee. I also can't wait to get my toenail polished! ugh, how unglamourous they are right now.
Today while we did some errands, I was able to wobble around.  Did I mention how dramatical I can be!!?! :) I want to make my toe a little "cozy" that looks like a painted toenail!
Wearing: dress - GLAM, sandals - Style&Co., sunnies - Drugstore, ring - F21 (won from Jessica)
So being that this is my 100th post, I thought it would be fun to do a little giveaway for my readers.  My hubby and BFF suggested I should give away 100 things! I told them they were crazy.. maybe if I were made of money. So I thought it would be perfect to giveaway something that always puts a smile on my face!! Hello Kitty and Tokidoki.

HK Headbands (Upcycled by me... I picked up some HK decor at our local Longs Drugs and made them into headbands... the bow headband was inspired by the Chubby Bunny for HK headband), HK Apple Ring, and a Tokidoki 2010 Planner (I know January is almost over, but hey, there are still 11 months left!!)
Giveaway rules are simple:
1. Leave a comment on this post - it can be about anything. :)
2. Enter by Friday, Januray 29th. Winner will be annouced the next day!
3. Please make sure to leave your email address and/or blog link, so I can contact you if you're the winner!
4. Extra entries if you're a follower.
(open for U.S. and Canada residents only, sorry International readers... I'll do another little giveaway later...)

Good Luck everyone! and thanks for reading my crazy blog!! :)

My Weekend

I had a great weekend.... but my hubby got sick :(.  Probably because of me.

Yesterday I woke up early... and by early I mean 7:30am. That's waaaaaay early for a weekend!!  It was our company's first Highway Clean-up for 2010.  We have two miles (that the company adopted years ago) designated for us to keep trash free. :)  I'm really glad I went.  This year I'd like to help out our little community more.  One "bad" thing that did happen was I got two cuts (they were teeny, but there was quite a lot of blood) on my left thigh!!!!!

Every highway clean-up the company comes up theme on what to wear (a few past clean-up attire; rasta wear, wacky hats, tacky tourist).  We had to wear GREEN this time around.... so I found this old tee from Abercrombie + Fitch and also fashioned me a green fishy headband with a googly eye :).
Saturday night (before the hubby got worse), we went to buy some craft supplies... and enjoyed some dinner together. I also picked up two really pretty dress and skirt patterns from Wally World. They're Cynthia Rowley. I can't wait to sew something up!! Speaking of sewing, Project Runway made it's debut this past week! OMG, so excited it's back in NYC. That's where that show belongs... will be posting about PR soon!
And... today was Lauren's (one of my best-est-est-est friend) baby shower. It was hosted by her family at Tiffany's restaurant. (Tiffany's has such great food!! today we had; kimchee fried rice, shrimp tempura, tofu tempura, spicy pork lettuce wraps, crispy noodles, sizzling steak bites, mochiko chicken, and seafood pancake).  Since Eli wasn't feeling well, he stayed home to rest and I brought him home his favorite, yummy Honey Walnut Shrimp, to cheer him up. :)

It was such a great little get together. Lauren was brought to (happy) tears :) .... I know that she will be such an amazing mother. I can't wait to be an "aunty" again!

The Manuels. :) {cake + cuppies, made by yours truly. I made little fishey flags, but forgot them}
Shanna, Leah, Me, Lauren a.k.a. "Baldy", and Tara
Baby shower tradition... after the gifts are open the daddy get's dressed up like a baby! Leabert was such a good sport for letting me dress him up... and of course I couldn't forget his "bottle".
and... these are the little centerpieces I made for the shower. The theme was "Fish and Poi...".  So I took empty Hanalei poi (oh yummy) plastic containers, lined them with blue tissue paper (to mimic the ocean), filled them with yummy Hawaii snacks (some ocean-ey), and created a little Koi Nobori (Lauren embraces her Japanese culture).

Snacks included, mini nori arare, red iso peanuts, heart shaped arare, honey balls, li hing mui candy, ocean-y animal crackers, and mac nut kisses
Hope everyone else had a great weekend!!!!

Love, S

p.s. I almost forgot to mention that I won another "Itty Bitty Giveaway", from Jessica at Style Obsession. Thanks Jessica, can't wait to wear my ring!!! weeeee. :)

Day Dreaming Wonderland...

I've been thinking.. I need to start an empire with my talent! :) Just one idea and it could explode into a multi-million dollar phenom! who knows.. it could happen to me. Wishful thinking.

I made another money box (normally a tradition in Hawaii, these boxes are used or displayed at parties; normally located at the "sign in" / gift table... guests place their cards in these boxes) for my friends daughter's first birthday party this weekend.  It came out pretty great, that I wanted to keep it for myself. But it would just take up way too much space in our little home.

On my lunch break at work.... :) I really love the color of this dress against my skin... why don't I have more of this in my wardrobe!?!
Wearing: dress - Vertigo, sandals - Style & Co.,  locket - Lucky Feather, ring - F21, bangle - Thrifted
I also made a diaper cake for my cousin's baby shower. Yay another girl in the family! :) It was a Hello Kitty diaper cake and I'm sad that I don't have any "blog worthy" pictures to share.

This is what I wore to the shower....
Wearing: navy dress (from last year) - F21, boots - Carrini, sheer tights - George, bracelets - F21, BIG bow headband - Ross
I'm really excited for Alice in Wonderland this coming March. The beautiful Johnny Depp. *sigh*. I have an outfit in the works... eeek!! and this BIG bow headband will go great with it! Can't wait to share.

Love, S

p.s. This is a bit embrassing, but I hate to admit that I'm really into the song Tik Tok by Ke$ha. Gawd! LOL. and my hubby got me "hooked" on Jersey Shore. *fist pump* double oh my gosh!!

Can't get enough

I can' get enough of my Jeffrey Campbell Potion boots. They are probably the most comfortable shoes I own... and I enjoy the stares that I get (both good and not so good) whenever I wear them.

On my lunch break... I justified treating myself to a choco-dipped-cone from DQ, due to the fact that I had miso mahimahi + brown rice + green salad for lunch. It was keiki size, so it was a "small" treat. :)

Wearing: dress - I.N. Studio, studded belt - GAP, shoes - Jeffrey Campbell, bag - Tahari, rings - F21 and Sanrio, sunnies - F21.
The weekend is here.... weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Love Bug

Mrs. Crafty came out last night.. and created this lovely lady bug money box. My camera isn't the greatest, so the pictures don't really do the bug justice. The wings are satiny and puffy!

Delivering the bug to the customer. She was very excited!! :) I love making people happy.
Wearing: tee - OMNI Peace, skinnies - ON, sandals - Yoki, locket necklace - Lucky Feather (Cinnamon Girl)
I got a couple of new heels today. They were VERY affordable, both pairs for only $30... and despite they are 5 inches high and considerably 'cheap' in price, they don't feel cheap, they are very comfy.  If I had a job that required me to stand for the whole day, I could in these. I love love love the bows on the first pair and I love that the maryjane has a hidden platform.. also love the two different textures "leather" and "suede".
[click click to make larger]
I really want to wear them with socks... hmmmm.
But what I really want is a pair of sparkly socks... just like these ones in the Dior Spring 2010 (rtw).

Pooma got a new outfit today too... from grandma + grandpa (my parents).  Her top says "Little Miss Perfect"... so sad, her paws are stained, because she can't stop licking them!!!!!! :( I think next time we take her to the groomers, we're going to have to try poodle feet.. ew!
Sweet dreams.. off to slumber land......

Ruby Love.

Recently I've been tagged with a few more awards... from Dea of the Dea Diaries and Nathalie of Accessory Pirate.  Thank you lovelies!

{from Dea}

{from Nathalie}

I know I've shared 7 facts about me when I recieved my first "Beautiful Blogger" award (from the Owls Closet, but I'd love to share 7 more. :)

1.  I have two soul mates (and yes, you can have two!!) - My hubby and my BFF, Jo.
2.  I can't whistle.
3.  LOVE to cook for my hubby... even though I'm not "great" at it I still love it. Sometimes, I concoct weird dishes.. but he eats it, so that's a good thing. :) Also, while cooking I use many many many bowls, ramekins, and untensils... I like to imagine I'm hosting a cooking show!!
4.  I was born in the Philippines (Cagayan city) and we moved to Hawaii when I was three. I haven't been back since, but hope to visit with my parents and hubby in 2012.  I'm a bit scared and I don't know why.. but I want to make that visit happen.
5.  I have one sister (she's older... and she's beautiful).  Growing up I was the little bratty sister that wanted to follow her around and do everything she did (we're 7 years apart) - pretty much her annoyance. We have the best relationship now.. and I'm very fortunate that we're only a 30 minute plane ride away from eachother.
6.  I sunbathed topless for a whole week.  Our 2005 trip to Tahiti was by far the best trip the hubby and I have taken. I can't wait to go back.
7.  When I get exicted (which is a lot, it doesn't take a lot to amuse me) I emphasize the wrong parts of a sentence when I'm speaking.

I want to pass these awards on to: joaniebeanPinkBowCafe Fashionista, and the Starving Stylist

I've been searching for a ruby ring and found a few beautiful ones online... but I dredge making the purchase because what if it look horrid in person!!  That's the thing with most jewelry pieces, it's something that you should try on (at least 99% of the time)....

This is my fav!! I love how this is a raw ruby.. and the size it amazing!! weeeeeee.

Anyone have any recommendations of any beautiful / unique jewelry sites? I'd love to know.

I'll leave you with this pic... this was taken the other night when we attempted to pay Yogurtland a visit, but was out of luck... As a child I used to love going to the Whalers Village just so I could see the whale skeleton that's at the entrance of the shopping center.  Oooooo and speaking of whales, it's Whale Season in the islands... and I finally got to see my first Humpback whale of the season this past Saturday!!! OMG!! I squealed with delight!!

Wearing: jumper - Jeans Warehouse (I'm not "allowed" to go into this store.. it's basically a shop with "rejects" from F21, Charlotte Russe, and Wetseal.. with a few other unknown labels in the mix, priced even cheaper than the stores they came from.), sweater vest - Old Navy, belt - F21, Potion Boots - Jeffrey Campbell, necklace - Hello Kity, bag - Tahari
