Costumes of Halloween past...

I love Halloween! It's a time when you can dress up and the sky's the limit!! You can be anything you want. I love creating my own pieces. I love creating costumes for others too!

Thanks to one of my favorite blogs Closet Full of Nothing, I too decided to post a few of costumes from previous Halloweens.  I wasn't able to find a couple pictures, but one year I was a geisha.  I even sewed my own kimono! Another year we all dressed up as Super Heros! I need to find that pic. It was awesome!!

I still haven't figured out what I'm doing this year!!! I need to come up with something quick. Any ideas??

For Sister

Procrastination always gets the best of me.  I still haven't decided if I'll be dressing up this Halloween.  Hopefully a fabulous idea will come to me before Saturday.

My sister asked me a few weeks ago if I could make her a costume this year. I started this costume late - and by late I mean two days ago.  I "finished" early this morning at about 2am.  It's on it's way to Honolulu today with my parents and hopefully my sister will love it, because a lot of love went into this costume. I'm not completely satisfied with the end result, but considering that I did it in less than a day it's quite great. I would have added alot more details - finished the pleating all the way up to the bodice, added suit sprites, and even a Catbus bag, oh the possibilities!!

The inspiration - Blue Totoro ^_^
My sister wanted the dress to be long and  also wanted a shrug.  So instead of making the shrug blue, I made it green so that it would be like the "leaf". The sleeves are supposed to look leaf like. The eyes are sewn onto bobby pins so she can clip them in her hair.

When I was a little girl I took ballet classes for a couple years.  I remember my very first recital was "Peter and the Wolf".  I didn't get cast as Peter or the Wolf, but was chosen to be Peter's pet, a mischevious but lovely little kitty.  Oh, I wonder what would have become of me, had I continued those ballet classes.  I'd be quite limber, long, lean and slender, fabulous gams, a lot more graceful, and possibly be able to perform with the likes of Mikhail Baryshnikov! Well, maybe the last thought is a stretch, but a girl can dream... and oh how dreamy the new Forever 21 Twist line is... It's "tutu" cute!

Hairfun

I had the day off yesterday and decided to make more headbands. I sold one today.  I think this would be a nice opportunity to make a few extra dollars. :)

Ring Lovin'

The other day I got some new costume jewelry from F21.  That store has a great selection of fun rings, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. I got all these rings for only $25. Score.

Pumpkin Patch!!

We visited the pumpkin patch in Kula today. Me and Eli's first pumpkin picking ever!! It was awesome.  Super cute and the all the kids were going crazy for pumpkins. :)  We picked out 3 smaller pumpkins; one for me, one for Eli, and of course we couldn't leave out Pooma. We can't wait to decorate them. Eli's thinking of making his Lady Gaga-esque! We'll see how that turns out.

Solids vs. Prints

I'm normally not a fan of the Coach brand, but about 6 months ago I came across these shoes.  The chunky heel is killer and the peep toe, who doesn't love a peep toe?! I had to have them, and that I did. My hubby got them for me. :)  I found them tonight still tucked and smelling brand spankin' new in it's box and realized I haven't worn them yet!! Boo to me! Any thoughts on what to pair them with? The all over print draws me to wearing them with a solid color, but I know a print would be so much more fun!!

Love, S

Pooma loves them too :)

Lavender Fields

My friend Wendy asked if I could make her daughter a head band. They're taking a trip to the Kula Lavender Farm this weekend and thought that a pale lavender headband would be a perfect match!!  I basically upcycled one of her daughters old t-shirts.  It's a simple project and a great head band style for all ages.

note: I really want to invest in a DSLR camera. Point and shoots are great because they're compact, but the colors are never turn out right!! :( pardon the crappy pictures...

The "Marina" headband - I named it after my mom, she taught me how to make these "circle flowers"

Cielle means SKY in french

Today I got some lovely new earrings from my friend Cielle (CielleStar).  She's such a talented woman and she should be selling her lovely designs sometime soon on Etsy.  I'm so excited for her.  I can't wait!!

TRESemmƩ Style

My hubby, Eli, who is an aspiring hair dresser :) tried this Jeanie Syfu look on me. It only took a few mintues and end result is quite lovely.  Pardon the no make up look and since we only were testing out the style, there is absolutely no product in my hair.  My current hair cut is VERY layered so it is a bit different from the video.  Have fun with the look.  What is your favorite hairstyle for the fall?

Some Saturday Shopping...

Eli and I came across a cute consignment store, Bohemia Boutique in Wailuku. I wish we had more consignment and thrift stores on the island.  There were great items not to mention their little "high end designer" nook, where I found four lovely Chanel jackets that were only going to $400 a piece. What a steal considering a jacket could easily go for $4000!!  All the jackets were size 2 and although I probably wouldn't have bought one, it would have been fabulous to try one on!! :)  I also found a pair of black peep toe Miu Miu shoes.  They were only $15!, but I'm still not sure how I feel purchasing used shoes. Clothes are one thing, because they can be laundered, but shoes, that's a different story. This is what I left with; a fun white jelly clutch. Sweet isn't it!!

I also picked up a couple pair of boots (first pair is Madeline Stuart and the second pair is Nine West) at Ross today.  I'm really excited to wear them! :)

Air your Dirty Laundry

What a great idea Melangerie came up with.  Great for weddings, bridals showers, and birthdays.  This would even be a great idea for my parent's upcoming anniversary.  It's their Jade / Coral anniversary - yep - 35th blissful years of marriage! They are my inspiration. :)

Vintage Inspired Head Wear

I came across this lovely shop on Etsy, House of Telsa.  There are beautiful vintage inspired pieces.  And you don't need a special occasion to wear these, because everyday is special. :)  This is my favorite piece.

1000 + 1

I was honored to be part of Lauren and Leabert's special day.  They even asked if Eli and I would be able to create their 1001 Origami Crane design for them.  At first we didn't jump at the opportunity.  It wasn't that we didn't want to, but we were a bit afraid to.  Dont' get me wrong, we're both very creative individuals, but we've never done such a thing and we wanted to make sure that it came out perfect for them.

Well, after a week of staring at a black piece of velvet we decided that it was now or never, not to mention the wedding reception was only 2 days away! :)  We realized that no matter what the end product was, Lauren and Leabert would love it.  Even if it didn't meet our expectations, as long as it met their, that's all that would really matter.

So, after just one day and maybe half a night... in the wee hours of night before their reception we finished the design.  For a novice, it came out beautiful.  Now everytime they look at this artwork hanging in their home, they'll not only be reminded of the meaning behind the design, but also be reminded of the two friends that love them dearly.

This is the Otomo Family Crest.  Although Lauren is now a Manuel, Leabert is also an Otomo!! :)
